The fields include:

  • Vnum: This is assigned by the Apprentices Workshop. It will assign the next available vnum. Yes, the first one starts at 0, not 1, that isn’t a bug.
  • Keywords: These are all of the keywords associated with this mob. Per the Area Writers Guide, this should include all nouns associated with the mob (Example: cow), but not any adjectives (Example: angry brown).
  • SDESC: This is the short description of the mob, and what the player sees when they interact with the mob. The first letter should be lower case, and it should not have any closing punctuation such as a period. (Example: the angry brown cow)
  • LDESC: This is the long description of the mob, and is what the player sees when they enter the room in which the mob is reset. Including all flags for alignment or spells, this should not exceed 80 characters in length. If you selected View rulers in your user Setup, you will see a handy guide to help you with this requirement.
  • Look Description: This is what a player sees when they look at the mob. If you do not want to write a description, please copy and paste the long description into this field.
  • Action Flags: These flags govern the behavior of the mob. ALL mobs must have the STAY AREA flag (which is added by default by the Apprentice's Workshop). All other flags are optional.
  • Affect Flags: These flags govern what affects the mob – spells they are currently under the effects of, or special conditions, such as being immune to Charm or Summon. Remember that flags generated by spells or abilities (Hide, Invis, Sanctuary) affect the number of characters available to you in the Long Description.
  • Alignment: Just like players, mobs can have alignment, or not. Remember that flags generated by alignment affect the number of characters available to you in the Long Description.
  • Level: This is the level of the mob. It should be in line with the recommended level range for the zone.
  • Sex: This is the expressed gender of the mob.
  • Languages Known: this section details all the languages known by the mob. If you want it to understand all languages, select God.
  • Languages Spoken: this section details the language spoken by the mob.

When all of the above fields are completed, click CREATE MOBILE. It will look like this:

Mob Special Functions

There are two types of Mob Special Functions: Extended and Normal. Permission for their use must be obtained from the Area Coordinators. To add a special function, select whether it is Normal or Extended. If Normal, select the appropriate type of Special Function from the list. An Extended Function will require additional fields. For specific information on the various Mob Special Functions available, please see: Area_Special_Functions#Mob_Functions.

Shopkeepers

If your mob is a shopkeeper, you will need to assign the hours it is open, what types (if any) of magic it will purchase from players, and whether or not it has a racial bias (i.e., it buys and sells at a better rate to members of that particular race).

When you have assigned any special attributes to the mob, they will be added to the Formatted Block, which will look like this:
