Cordir's Favorite Restrings

From The Final Challenge Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Notes: I have written well over a hundred restrings - probably much closer to two hundred. Here are some of my favorites from over the years. As these are my creation and were made for specific folks, I would ask that they NOT be replicated on the mud. As far as I know, only Aoide's tunic and possibly Corri's Kitten Mittens still exist: If anyone has any of these items, other than those two, please let me know. - Cordir 14:25, 18 June 2012 (MST)

(Roaring) an angry ebon flame

Long Description: Black flames taken from an ancient temple ground consume everything around them.

Look angry ebon flame:
Like the pillars of blackflame that once supported the holy grounds of the
Ebon Hand, these holy fires mark the one for whom they were ensorcelled as
one who is a pillar of strength for the Lady and people he serves with his
very life-blood. Sworn oaths upon blood and soul mark him as indelibly as
do these fires... for the responsibilities of the Eraic Dhan endure always.

Look ebon:
You feel as though you have stepped into the infinite Void, ebon oblivion
surrounding you in all directions. It is not cool here, however. Instead,
the darkness here is the searing calm at the center of Hell. You stand on
a circular floor comprised of obsidian panels, suspended in the void. Six
pits form a hexagon on the floor, an altar at their center. Six fires of
midnight black flow out of the pits, flaring to the ceiling.

Flowing from the floor, a misshapen lump of obsidian reaches out like an
ebon hand.

Look Angry:
No sweat breaks out upon your brow, no red haze fills your vision, but suddenly,
and with a powerful force, rage and anger fill you... consume you... burning all
away but an overwhelming need for vengeance, retribution, and punishment...

a glistening spiderweb of platinum and onyx

Long Description: The ebon form of a spider rests upon a gleaming spiderweb of precious platinum.

Look ebon form spider:
Examining the spider upon the web, you discern that it is crafted of some sort
of black gemstone - yet its hardness is unmatched in your experience. It bears
a 'star' within its faceted oval form, yet it is no sapphire. The light seems
to flicker and dance, more like a living flame than a reflection in stone. It
draws you in, until your entire being is focused on that tiny ebon fire. Songs
you have never heard before, chanted in an arcane and lost tongue, give praise
to an ancient deity - yet the words and melody are only in your mind. Shifting
slightly, the spider stirs upon its gleaming web, breaking your focus upon the
dancing light. The songs fade in your memory, leaving you wondering if perhaps
you imagined it all...

Look gleaming spiderweb platinum:
The intricacy of the spiderweb is awe inspiring. Not simply a web, but an interweaving
of threads, looping back and forth upon itself in complex knotwork, it fascinates. The
form of a spider rests atop the web, it's long legs woven into the web's strands.

a silver signet ring set with a bit of shell

Long Description: A silver signet ring ornamented with a bit of shell lies here gleaming.
<worn on finger> (Moderate magic) a silver ring set with a spiral shell

Look ring shell:
Examining this ring, you marvel at the skilled craftsmanship. The design is
clean, elegant, yet masculine. The bevel is circular and cradled within its
grasp is a sea shell. It has been carefully cut in half to reveal intricate
inward spiraling coils and chambers, each smaller than the rest. Inset into
each section is a tiny diamond, icy and crystalline in its beauty, creating
the illusion that the shell is touched here and there with ice.

Look diamond diamonds stone ice:
The tiny diamonds flicker with the barest hint of an indigo hue. The innermost
stone seems to have some sort of symbol etched on its surface.

Look symbol sigil spider:
The sigil is too tiny to make out properly. There are details that mortal
sight is not keen enough to discern, but surely part of it is an oval and
there are small little lines extending outward, four to a side...

(Indigo Aura) a Thread bound to the Weaver

Long Description: Glowing with a divine light, this dappled-brown thread pulses with life energy.

Look dappled-brown:
As your senses touch the dappled-brown thread, you are swept away from this
tranquil place and up into the azure sky. The winds are incredible, flowing
around, above, beneath you like a lover. Your vision is keen - the miles no
impediment to seeing your target - and undimmed by the centuries. Though it
is accurate to say you could soar these skies blinded - they have been your
home for more years than some cities have existed. Your goal is but a short
distance - A youngling has fallen on the rocks of an unsafe canyon, and he
cannot climb back out. Snapping your wings closed, it takes only seconds to
plummet hundreds of feet through the air and into the narrow gorge's depths.
The sharp sound of your talons gripping the stone as you land startles him,
making him cry out. His wails are stilled at your soothing voice and gentle
expression. The mark of the Chosen upon your breast stills his fears, too.
A brief moment later, you are winging upward with your burden, glad to have
saved yet another soul. He looks up at you, his light blue eyes gazing with
trust into your own - vivid green to match the forest leaves of Cillidellia
- and tells you he will never forget your kindness, Taoiseach...

Look thread weaver:
As your inquisitive fingertip touches the Thread, your consciousness is thrust
Without warning into a storm of sensation. As if your skin had been removed in
A single blink, you sense everything around you. Surrounding you is a complex,
Beautiful web-like pattern. It touches everything, extending in all directions,
Above, below, even through you. You realize in touching it, that you, yourself,
Are part of this Pattern. One Thread shines comfortingly warmly nearby: a rich
Tone of dappled brown, like the softest feathers of a hawk's breast, or a tree-
Spirit's eyes, or the freshly tilled earth. The Thread you have sensed...there
Is such a sense of contradiction about it. Airy solidity. Joyful wisdom. Quiet
Celebration. Connectedness and yet solitude. A Voice rings in your mind:
* The Thread of my Taoiseach, Pitt. One I value deeply. A true Servant, friend,
trusted confidant. He walks through this world with heart and compassion. Noble
in his actions, yet ever approachable in his demeanor. Ever will his Thread be
one that I take joy in the Weaving of. May the Three ever bless, ward and keep
him. *

ancient ritual robes of heavy crimson linen

Long Description: Sigla and runes have been embroidered upon this robe, making it glow with power.
<worn about body> (Potent Magic) ancient ritual robes of heavy crimson linen

Look embroidery sigla runes:
Powerful magics have been woven into this robe, and further sorcery
has been added through painstaking embroidery in threads of mithril
and orichalcum. The contrasting embroideries, silver and sable, on
the crimson fabric are mesmerizing as they flow one into the other.
Here and there, you can pick out certain of the runes, as they seem
to be based on an ancient dialect of Thoras:
      * Chance * Sorcery * Fate * Weaving * Protection *

Look linen:
Whomever wove the linen used in the making of garment had to have been
a master of their art. The subtlety of hue and texture in the threads
used create the faint impression of flames flickering about the wearer,
wreathing them in fire.

Look ritual:
Running a finger along the embroidery, you can almost get a sense of the
ritual for which these garments were made. Almost... yet whether divine
or profane, you cannot discern.

an ornate tunic of embroidered indigo silk

Long Description: Gleaming silk lies piled here - a garment of indigo and silver.

Look tunic:
This tunic is cut to flatter the feminine form: graceful lines draw the eye
to silk-wrapped softness. The neckline is an elegant oval that hints at but
does not reveal the upper slope of the wearer's bustline. The sleeves have
insets of a deep burnished silver, matched in wide bands of embroidery that
draw the eye to the hem, collar and cuffs.

Look silk:
The weave of this silk is superlative, with over a thousand threads per inch.
Hues of indigo and storm blue have been cross-woven to create a depth of hue
that brings delight to the eye. One cannot help but caress its length and to
marvel at the texture. It is like a cloud, or water, or a velvety rose petal,
or all of them at once. The fabric is, you realize, ancient. Older than some
of the oceans of this world, older than dragons or gods. Singularly rare, it
is silk woven by the demon in spider form, the Yochlol. In all of time, only
one person has ever had the stubbornness to force the creature to do as bid.

Look embroidery silver ornate cuffs collar hem:
A wide band of dark silver embroidery has been worked around the hem, cuffs,
and collar of the tunic. The design is that of an elongated spiderweb, with
a series of musical notes dancing along its length, as if the song used the
structure of the web as its own bar, the webspinner as a clef. Scanning its
length, you cannot help but hum the tune represented: jaunty and cheerful.

(Curled) a sleeping bronze dragonette

Long Description: Curled into a neat coil, this dragonette is fast asleep... or is he?
Dracos wears (Curled) a sleeping bronze dragonette around his neck.

Look dragonette:
This small dragonette is coiled about the neck of his bonded companion,
and appears to be dead asleep, snoozing after a good meal. However, the
sound of your movement alerts him, and one brilliant jade eye opens and
gazes directly at you, keenly aware of the slightest indication that an
assault upon his friend might be imminent.

Look Tirdin:
The dragonette slowly blinks back the inner membrane of his eyes, making
the bright jade of them flash and reflect. His talons extend slightly, a
soft, eerie scratching noise whispering up from the firm leather padding
on his owner's doublet, and a clear warning is given of his willingness
to watch and ward and protect his friend.

* Do Not Even THINK about it,* he says in your mind, hissing softly and
baring small but completely effective fangs. * I bite. And while you would
not be tasty, I can always wash out my mouth. * He makes a soft, hissing
sound that can only be interpreted as a chuckle.

(Squirming) a pair of oddly fuzzy mittens..

Long Description: A pair of dark black mittens lies here. Except that they just... meowed?
<worn on finger> (powerful magic) (Squirming) a pair of oddly fuzzy mittens..

Look mittens kittens kitten-mittens:
Just a simple little pair of mittens, eh? Knitted, no doubt. Angora maybe.
No. Nothing so simple.
Some sort of great and terrible sorcery was used. The kind that historians
try to keep quite hush-hush lest the unwary or foolish attempt to recreate
such monstrosities. Truly, only a madman would have made such a thing. The
mind boggles, as you examine the unnatural thing before you: mittens, soft
and warm and luxurious, made of a dark black fur. Unremarkable, Except...
Except for the undeniable fact that THEY ARE ALIVE! They blink at you with
adorable, kittenish blue-gray eyes, and mewl and purr. Truly, this is mage-
craft gone terribly, terribly awry.

(Icy) a perfectly crafted martini

Long Description: Two olives float in a crystal clear libation perfectly made from crisp gin.
<held> (Potent magic) (Icy) a martini

Look martini:
According to the connoisseur, the only true martini is made with gin,
a drop of Dry Vermouth and, perhaps (if you are the daring sort), a
crisp, green olive (two if you are feeling decadent).

It takes a certain kind of man to carry off a martini. Suave. Dashing.
A bit of a rogue. The kind that would have the scent of a good cigar,
the midnight breezes by the ocean, and the warmth of leather clinging
to the crispness of his linen shirt. Understated, yet eloquent.

Perfect, then, that this martini belongs to Pol.

a small, lumpy, beaded leather amulet bag

Long Description: Various objects of unseen quality and quantity make this small amulet bag bulge.

Look amulet bag:
Crafted to be worn upon a plain thong around the neck, this amulet bag is
nearly devoid of decoration. A small design of coarsely handmade beads of
some kind of green stone forms a spiral upon the front of the tiny pouch,
and here and there, bright feathers dangle and sway. Various small items,
each with their own meaning and purpose, have been stuffed into the pouch
and cause it to bulge outward. Only a small knot of sinew wrapped tightly
around a large bead holds the amulet bag closed.

Look contents items:
It takes a long moment to manage to open the amulet bag: the sinew that binds
it closed has gotten wet at some point -- most likely drool, spit, or perhaps
some ale or grog -- and shrank. But once the clasp is loosened, the contents
spill out into your hand:

- a tiny mouse skull, somehow intact
- a bit of bright string, tied in a strangely purposeful pattern of knots
- a single white whisker, perhaps from a cat?
- a fragment of pottery, the colors faded and ancient
- a tiny carving of ash wood, crafted in the form of a weasel
- a small bit of sage, the leaf dried and brittle
- a smooth stone taken from a stream bed
- a dried claw from some form of bird
- a small silver charm in the shape of a spider
- an origami crane

How you're going to fit them all back in, is entirely beyond you.

Look beads beadwork spiral pattern:
It's difficult to discern what type of stone was used in the crafting of these
beads. They appear to have been made by hand, carefully chipped and rounded, a
tiny hole drilled in each (though some aren't exactly centered). They are not
of emerald, or tourmaline, or jade...what they might be eludes you. Spiraling
inward, the beads form a neat coil that almost reminds you of a serpent biting
its own tail.

a diamond and platinum spider-shaped torc

Long Description: An unusually large, perfect diamond creates the body of a spider on this torc.
<worn around neck> (Artifact magic) a diamond and platinum spider-shaped torc

Look spider torc:
This crescent of metal is stunning in its complexity and grace:
the body of a black widow spider is formed by a unusually large
and flawless diamond. Its legs interweave with one another, the
forelegs curving around the wearer's neck. The arachnid's body
would sit perfectly in the pool of the wearer's throat.

Look diamond teardrop:
The diamond that forms the spider's thorax is of unusual size and
clarity, as well as being completely without flaw. Its color is a
brilliant white, with hints of cyan and indigo shimmering within.
Staring intently at the stone, your reflection gazes back at you:
yet, then the images shift, and visions appear.

Look vision visions:
Visions flow over the surface of this flawless stone, shifting one
to another as smoothly as the Pattern itself is woven:
* A young elf grows to manhood, hearing the call of honor and duty. *
* Vows are given to a Lady and Her Fated: blood, tears, lives shed. *
* Countless times, the Elf interposes himself, risking all for Her. *
* Challenges are accepted, quests undertaken, he leads, he follows. *
* Kneeling at Her feet, he accepts a great gift and responsibility. *
* The duty of ordainment is borne with dignity, honor and ferocity. *
* Leading from the front, he teaches the Blades to avenge, protect. *
* Years pass: The ageless Elf steadfast in his vigilence and honor. *
* A void passes between the Elf and the Lady - Desolate seperation. *
* The Mists disperse permitting the Elf to return: Joy. Homecoming. *
* The Pattern clears: it is time for a new path. Tears. Resolution. *
* Once more, he kneels before Her. New vows and paths. Honor. Duty. *

With a wracking shudder, you come to yourself once more, the vision
fading like a morning mist burned away by the sun.

(Woven) raven's song and midnight's gleam

Long Description: Ephemeral essences are woven here: the harsh cry of a raven, and inky midnight.
<worn on finger> (Artifact magic) (Woven) raven's song and midnight's gleam

Look raven song midnight gleam:
The Firstborn elves learned to weave impossible things: memory, sounds,
tastes, purest essences, and create tangible things. In this case, the
Lady Weaver has done the crafting, interweaving the harsh cry of ravens
with the velvety swath of midnight. The two, together, wrack your heart

forming a band of melody and shadow, and a ephemeral concept of change,
death, and chaos blended into a single elusive whole.

an unusual timepiece upon a long silver chain

Long Description: There's something a bit odd about this pocketwatch. Perhaps its the way it glows.
<worn with pride> an unusual pocketwatch upon a long silver chain

Look pocketwatch timepiece:
The air seems to shimmer and shudder around this timepiece, as if it was robed
in vapor or mist. It has an oddly long winding stem and the face of the watch
is concealed by a hinged cover. A long length of chain with a clip on the end
is attached to the top of the watch, allowing it to be secured to a garment.

Look cover :
The cover is engraved upon its face with a simple symbol - an hourglass -
which is surrounded by scrolling arabasques and intricate knotwork.

Look knotwork:
The knotwork that surrounds the very outer edge of the cover are tiny
little triskales... three sided knots that alternate in color between
crimson, indigo and violet.

Look hourglass:
The sands of the hourglass almost seem to visibly slip through the
aperture, from one hemisphere to the other. At this moment in time,
the sands appear to be running out...

Look face:
Opening the cover, you note that the time displayed is midnight, and that
the second hand appears to be running backwards...

Look winding stem:
The winding stem is unusually long and is shaped like a key. As your inquisitive
fingers run over its surface, you realize that it can turn in either direction.
But who would wish to turn back time?

Look chain:
The chain is made of silver, polished to a near mirror shine. Each link
is perfect and strong, shaped like two ovals joined end to end.

(Ebon Aura) (Storming) the Weaver's vengeance and rage

Long Description: The rage and vengeful spirit of the Weaver has coalesced into a deadly weapon.
<wielded> (Ebon Aura) (Storming) the Weaver's vengeance and rage

Look weapon:
For a moment, it appeared that you held a long, slender, deadly blade, with
an edge a razor would envy. But you must have been mistaken, for clearly it
is a spear like those of legends, fit for a god's hand, a demonslayer. No,
it is simply a narrow weaving shuttle, hand-made of some pale, silvery wood.
Again it shifts, and is a stiletto, stained dark so as not to reflect light,
yet haloed in a deep indigo flame. Yet in all of its forms, its essence is
the same: This weapon was forged by the fury and vengeance of the Weaver -
the one who for whom it was made wields it does so in Her name and with Her
blessing... any others will be cursed and damned.

Look vengeance rage:
A crimson tide obscures your vision for a moment, and your entire being
shakes with a rage so overwhelming you drown in it, your conciousness a
single thought: *VENGEANCE* You feel the weight of bone and sinew and
flesh gone icy pressing down against your arms and torso where you hold
the still form of one once vibrant. Like a force of nature, like a tide,
like a storm, the anger builds and crashes over you... and beyond doubt,
beyond questioning, you know your purpose: to be the instrument and the
vengeance that is the only salve to the pain borne by the Lady.

(Aglow) an ebon spider from the Lady's web

Long Description: This small ebon spider blinks all eight eyes and looks for the Lady's friend.

Look ebon spider:
It is difficult to tell if this is a natural or unnatural creature, as there are
are many things about it that not 'normal' for its kind: foremost being its size.
Nearly a hand-span in width, it has long, chitinous legs that end in small barbs.
A bright crimson hourglass is visible upon its belly, and this easily recognized
symbol glows with a dull ruby-colored light. Its eyes bear a jewel-like facetted
brilliance, each a tiny crimson orb. It blinks slowly, and bares its tiny little
fangs in what you can only assume is a smile or grin of sorts. Dipping slightly,
it appears to bow.

It says softly (in ancient Thoras), 'I serve the Lady by lighting the way for one
She names as valued friend.'
