I was browsing through really REALLY old logs, and found this one of my joining the Ebon Hand as a wee little mortal mage. I apparently edited it pretty heavily at the time. - Cordir

==An Ebon Rebirth: Cordir's Induction into the Ebon Hand==

THAYGAR'S TEMPLE : [Exits: west]
You feel as though you have stepped into the infinite Void, ebon oblivion surrounding you in all directions.
It is not cool here, however. Instead, the darkness here is the searing calm at the center of Hell. You stand
on a circular floor comprised of obsidian panels, suspended in the void. Six pits form a hexagon on the floor,
an altar at their center. Six fires of midnight black flow out of the pits, flaring to the ceiling.
Flowing from the floor, a misshapen lump of obsidian reaches out like an ebon hand.

Cordir bows.
Cordir prostrates herself before the altar.
Cordir begins to prepare herself mentally for her task at hand.

GOD+ RECHO: Jaator is now onthe Hall of Fame page...Thaygar's return to Lesser status is also reflected on the web pages

Schwartz gossips 'gratz to thaygar for the return to lesser.'

Cordir shouts 'ALL HAIL THAYGAR, MASTER OF THE EBON HAND!!!!.'

GOD+ RECHO: Both will be reflected on the wizlist and plaque online next time we reboot

Someone smiles happily.
Someone sighs loudly.
Someone says 'others have been a pain in the neck.'
Someone sighs loudly.

Cordir bows deeply.
Cordir says 'I hope that I have, in no way, added to Your burden, my Lord. If now is not a good time.... I await Your convenience.'

Someone says 'this One has been run ragged. But has been reAscended up to the stature I possessed before.'
Someone says 'And, as Madman took leniency in my burden, so shall the Order take leniency in yours.'

Cordir says 'I would not wish leniency, my Lord.'

Thaygar says 'worship.'

Thaygar says 'we shall discover a way to kill you off later.' Thaygar grins evilly.

Cordir says 'I will bow to your wishes, but I would prefer to know that I have truly earned it.
Cordir says 'May I not complete the quest in full, first?.'

Thaygar says 'you have had to wait an entire TRIUNE. That level of dedication is rare these days.'

Cordir says 'I would rather wait longer and know that it was done in full ceremony and in fullness, rather than cut short.'

Thaygar says 'worship and your quest will be ... dealt with ....'

Cordir says 'As you wish, my Lord Ebon.'

Thaygar says 'your induction is not the same as the ceremony.'

Cordir says 'I understand... but was actually looking forward to the third part....'

* * * Cordir now worships Thaygar! * * *

Thaygar chuckles, evidently amused. Thaygar unlocks the gate.
Thaygar opens the gate. Thaygar leaves east.
Thaygar tells Cordir 'east.'

THAYGAR'S OFFICE : [Exits: west]
The stifling heat of the Void hovers in this black room as well.
As your eyes adjust to the lightlessness, you believe you can make
out cylinders lining the walls. Looking closer, you see that the
walls are composed of forty eight glass pods, each filled with an
organic fluid. Walking over, you see that the pods hold abominous
horrors, mutating and growing, soon to be released into the realm.
Drawing back into the dark core of the office, you see an obsidian
disk, hovering unsupported seven feet above the floor - giant waist
height. As you strain to look onto this desk, you see some kind of
image screen set into the panel. As you approach the disk, it turns
and glows. The office roars, loud music pouring down from above.
The image screen projects up, into a cylindrical holotube, showing
burning cities and dark, triumphant horrors. The music surges,
roaring a refrain from Leaether Strip:
"Walking through the broken glass, you know that your feet will bleed
Holding all your secrets back, you know that Evil Speaks"
Thaygar is here.

Thaygar smiles happily. Thaygar says 'your wish shall be granted.'

Cordir smiles happily.

Thaygar says 'which beast in the land do you desire?.'

Cordir stops a moment, and considers.
Cordir says 'I bow to your preferences on the matter... that part I had not thought of. Simply the willing sacrifice.'

Thaygar chuckles, evidently amused. Thaygar says 'no preferences at all?.'

Cordir says 'I have some things for you, if I may....the tokens you requested.'

Thaygar nods. Thaygar says 'send them up .'

Thaygar shouts 'ALL HAIL CORDIR! MAY THE EBON HAND SPREAD FOREVER!.'

Cordir says 'From Dwarvenhold.....' sac steak of Master Candler
Cordir says 'From the Half-elven camp.' sac pretzel

Thaygar says 'no food in a Triune makes a lesser god hungry.'

Cordir says 'from Lothlorien.' - sac cup of the local spice

Cordir says 'From Aarra' - sac worm crisps.

Cordir says 'From Hovelton' - sac pipeweed bread.

Cordir says 'From Og' - sac bone marrow pie.

Cordir says 'from Thistlerock' - sac a sack of salt.

Cordir says 'from Giant Town.' - sac reed mat

Cordir says 'From Mithas' - sac a fresh minatuar corpse.

Cordir says 'From Midguard' - sac a huge loaf of wheat bread.

Thaygar says 'that one must have been QUITE difficult to acquire.'
Thaygar grins evilly.

Cordir says 'And I also brought dessert....'
Cordir sacrifices (Glowing) the horn of a Unicorn. Thaygar accepts your sacrifice.

Thaygar eats the horn of a unicorn. Thaygar smiles happily.

Cordir says 'I did not find the stone you spoke of in the Deepwood -'
Cordir says 'although I searched it many times, as well as the caves below...'
Cordir says 'so in this, I did fail.'
Cordir says 'But I *DID* find a secret exit out of Thistlerock that Typhon did not know of!.'

Thaygar says 'the stone was but a guidepath to the demon ... '
Thaygar says 'if you found the demon ... perhaps someone removed the stone.'
Thaygar chuckles, evidently amused. Thaygar nods. Thaygar says 'that is ingenious is it not?.'

Cordir says 'Confusing, too. May I have your permission to break my fast?.'

Thaygar says 'you may.'

Cordir thanks Thaygar heartily and devours several Magic Mushrooms.

Cordir says 'Would you honor me by recommending a new title?.'

Cordir knows she is being over-bold...

Cordir blushes scarlet.

Thaygar finds the request more than worthy and earned.

Cordir bows deeply before Lord Thaygar.

Thaygar feels your title should reflect your poetic stature.
Thaygar says 'poet seems to lack the proper level of respect, for you are more than a mere poet ....'

Cordir bows deeply.

Thaygar says 'if you wish, for now, there is this: Cordir the Ebon Bard.'

Cordir says 'May I be so bold as to make an addition to your suggestion?.'

Title: Cordir, Ebon Bard, singing to the night sky

Cordir says 'Not perfect, but it will do quite nicely for a start..'

Thaygar nods. Thaygar looks at Cordir. Thaygar says 'remove your amulet of blocking.'

Cordir says 'Thank you sir... Oh dear! I almost forgot!!!'
Cordir says 'You bade me learn the political leaders of each town, as well...'

Cordir blushes scarlet.

Cordir says 'Giant town - lead by Sy-tar, the giant mayor.'
Cordir says 'Mithas - led by Emperor Salias.'

Thaygar says 'ah.'
Thaygar nods.
Thaygar grins evilly.

Cordir says 'Og - led by the Chieftain. Dwarvenhold - King Zentarion and Queen Sylette.
Cordir says 'Hovelton - the Thain. Midguard - The Mayor.'
Cordir says 'As for the Aara ... I believe it to be run by the Priests... I found no formal government.'

Thaygar says 'there is government, but it slays many Seekers. The southern cliffs are lethal.'

Cordir says 'I died there. My rescuers would not tell me why the Secretary slew me.'
Cordir says 'Only that I should never go there again...'

Thaygar says 'within the cliffs are the leaders ... you saw their servants ... that is enough.'
Thaygar nods. Thaygar says 'the leaders of the aara are cruel beings.'

Cordir says 'Half-Elven I would say is lead by the only person with a permanant structure,'
Cordir says 'and a hold on the Economy - Valdek, the owner of the Shanty.
Cordir says 'and lastly, Thistlerock - The Gnome CHieftain.'

Thaygar says 'so ... would you care to meet the great dhole?.'

Cordir gulps.

Thaygar says 'it is a slumbersome beast ...you yourself will have to initiate the last combat'
Thaygar says ' but before that look about it's chambers.'

Cordir says 'I theoretically know how to get there.... I think....'

Cordir is transferred:

THE CHAMBER OF THE DHOLE : [Exits: none]
You have fallen into an immense chamber, easily hundreds of meters across.
Frighteningly, the chamber is full, as great coil upon coil of a titanic,
slumbering beast shift. Horrid ichor coats the walls, while this beast
roils, the sleeping guardian, the great Dhole ...
Thaygar is here.
Torpid, shifting, the Great Dhole waits for the day it can rise again.

Thaygar tells Cordir 'the room you are in is private. Look about.'

Cordir says 'The requirements of the last segment were that I find my way back here, after dying.'

l n: This chamber is huge, the walls worn by the movements of the sleeping Dhole.
l e: This chamber is huge, the walls worn by the movements of the sleeping Dhole.
l s: This chamber is huge, the walls worn by the movements of the sleeping Dhole.
l w: This chamber is huge, the walls worn by the movements of the sleeping Dhole.
l d: The waste and rubbish of those adventurers who preceded you lies scattered about.
l u: The opening above is too high, too narrow, and too warded by sharp rocks for you ever to use it.

Thaygar tells Cordir 'no one will disturb you, and you will find your way back ... with assistance that you now have .'

Cordir nods.
Cordir says 'Shall I begin?.'

Thaygar tells Cordir 'have you looked at the dhole itself?.'

l dhole

Monstrously immense, the Dhole measues over 300 meters, coil upon coil of its enormous
length laying here. One end rises, and three immense jaws extrude and snap in a monstrous
yawn. Retracting its jaws, the beast shifts, as if sensing someone near. Its mandibles
unsheath once more, acidic spittle aflow from its maw. Its fetid exhalation rolls over
you, and it is crawing nearer ...
The Great Dhole is in perfect health.

Cordir tells Thaygar '*nod* A frightening beastie, to be sure.'

Thaygar tells Cordir 'nod ... initiate when you will.'

Cordir gathers herself.
Cordir whispers a small prayer to the Weaver.

k dhole

Thaygar is here.

Torpid, shifting, the Great Dhole waits for the day it can rise again.

Cordir bows before it.

The Great Dhole bows before you.

Thaygar tells Cordir 'make yourself a light and get all corpse.'

Cordir says 'I am not able to do so... that is not among my skills at this time.'

Thaygar tells Cordir 'ok then ... sigh ... this is gonna be silly.'

Cordir raises an eyebrow questioningly.

Cordir wonders how Thaygar could ever be accused of being silly.

Thaygar tells Cordir 'the room you are in is private ... so kill yourself (do NOT attack the dhole) and this One shall provide you a light.'

<45hp 131ma 146mv(13000) > K self You hit yourself. Ouch! You graze Cordir.

THE CHAMBER OF THE DHOLE [Exits: none]
( 2) The corpse of Cordir is lying here.
Thaygar is here.
Torpid, shifting, the Great Dhole waits for the day it can rise again.

Cordir says 'The willing gift of one's own life is, I think, the only true gift one can give.

Thaygar has granted you the ability to recall.

Cordir retrieves her belongings from her corpse.

The Great Dhole grins neutrally. The Great Dhole bows deeply.
The Great Dhole says 'hunt well little one.'

Cordir will strive to emulate the Dhole in her hunt.

Cordir says 'Thank you, Lord Thaygar. I would gladly spend the rest of the evening speaking with you,'
Cordir says 'But know that you are exhausted with your Re-Ascention.'

Thaygar tells Cordir 'this one thanks you.'

Cordir says 'The honor is _mine_, Ebon Lord.'

Thaygar tells Cordir 'use your potion ... my recall power is an emergency measure.'
