1996 Hard Drive Failure

10/05/96 13:45pm: Our disk finally died, and has been replaced.  Wayne 
from Primenet reports that we should now be stable.  The "old" player 
files have been installed from the newest backup (Sunday morning, 
9/29/96).  Equipment and experience lost as a result of the player file
restoration will _not_ be reimbursed.  If you find this intolerable and/or
unreasonable, then consider that there was a great number of people
affected by the crash, so experience point adjustment is not feasable,
and it is our policy not to reimburse equipment.  If reason doesn't do
anything for you, then please consider that you still _have_ a character,
and that the backups were reasonably current.  This could have been a
LOT worse.  Most characters created during Saturday and Sunday
of last week probably didn't make it.  Per my notes, characters created
during this past week were temporary, pending replacement of the hard
drive.  These characters will be purged.  I am no longer taking
entries for the contest announced on tfc-announce.  I will work on
tallying contest results once the old player files are restored.  Thanks
